This is Vandellòs’ most important manor house that is named after this architectural detail, the defence tower dating from the 16th century and declared a cultural object of national interest (BCIN). This type of towers used to be built as observations and protection points against pirate attacks.
Ca La Torre is a piece of cultural equipment made up from the manor house that used to belong to the Gil-Vernet family, with multiple generations of internationally renowned doctors, and a medieval tower. Nowadays, the building houses the history archive, with a conference hall and an exposition and history and heritage interpretation area. In the backyard, the centre organises open-air social and cultural activities. The medieval tower is accessible for visiting.
