“Clotxada” is one of the most popular widely attended events during Vandellòs’s patronage festival, held at the end of September in honour of the village patrons, Sant Cosme and Sant Damià. This gastronomic event takes place downtown, in the main square – Plaça Drs Gil-Vernet -, with the medieval tower at the background.
In this setting, so characteristic of Vandellòs, people savour what farmers once ate to recover strength and return to the fields: “clotxa”. This is to say, a partially emptied roll and filled with grilled stuffing (herring or sausage, tomato, onion, a good spoonful of olive oil and a pinch of salt).
This is a typical Terres de Mestral’s regional savoury, promoted by MIDIT (federation that oversees the economic development of Vandellòs, L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, Tivissa and Pratdip) as a local gastronomic icon. If you have not tried it yet, you are invited to do so; And if you are a loyal participant in this event – we have been celebrating it for twenty years in Vandellòs – we hope to see you back!
