This is L’Hospitalet de l’Infant’s most emblematic monument, dating back to 1344. It was founded by Prince Pere (“infant Pere” in Catalan), son of King Jaume II and Queen Blanca d’Anjou and declared a cultural object of national interest (BCIN). Its function involved hosting pilgrims and travellers who crossed Coll de Balaguer. This is where the town’s name comes from. It also reflects the local people’s main feature: hospitability.

Since the summer of 2016, the inn has a visitor centre, where the monument is interpreted in a clear, friendly and entertaining way, in its connection with the Col de Balaguer plain, a strategic spot since ancient times. Here the concept of medieval inn is highlighted (“hospital” in old Catalan), and you can learn about this gothic inn’s foundation, about life in the inn and its unique architecture. To do so, there are audiovisual and interactive communication tools: historic reconstructions, 3D images, augmented reality, etc.
